I’ve had several dentists look after my teeth over the years. And I can honestly say, John Cato and the team at Next Wave are definitely the best.
John did my very successful implant a few years ago, which included guided bone regeneration. This was followed by some composite restoration to improve my bite and aesthetics. The procedure and after care was second to none.
More recently, after a discussion on how I could improve my smile, John did a digital scan of my teeth, which created a 3D model of what Invisalign could potentially achieve. It was pretty impressive - so I went for it!
I started a four-month Invisalign Go treatment in March 25, which was followed by a few composite tweaks in June to help create my perfect smile. I used Boutique Whitening at home (which was included in the treatment plan) to reach the ideal whiteness for me. The final result exceeds my expectations and is better than the original 3D model!
Invisalign involves commitment to keep to a proper treatment schedule and you have to look after your teeth and trays. Regular check-ups and guidance from John, helps keep you on track. You also have access to your treatment plan, 3D model and support on the Invisalign app. You do have to wear retainers following treatment, but the benefits of Invisalign do outweigh the extra effort.
Having a much improved smile has made a huge difference. My bite has improved and it’s a huge confidence boost. I’ve even been approached by strangers asking me about my smile. I have no qualms in recommending Next Wave.

JOHN CATO - PRINCIPAL DENTIST

John Cato is the principal dentist and owner of Next Wave Dental. Originally from Liverpool, he moved to North Devon in 2017 with his wife Sophie and their two children. He founded Next Wave Dental to bring a fresh approach to dentistry in the region, with a focus on cutting-edge technology and patient-centered care.
John holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Leeds (2004) and graduated from Liverpool Dental School in 2012. He has a background in oral surgery and was accepted into the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. In 2017, he completed a Master’s in Dental Implantology.
John specialises in dental implants and aesthetic tooth replacement. He regularly attends CPD courses on advanced techniques, including implant restorations and bone grafting. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities and socialising with friends.
BRINTHAN NESHAKARAN - ASSOCIATE DENTIST
Brin qualified in 2020 from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and has worked in the North Devon area since the completion of his foundation year. Since qualifying, Brin has undertaken a number of additional postgraduate courses to further his clinical skills, always keeping up to date with the latest dental techniques and technologies.
Brin has developed a keen interest in prosthetics and adhesive dentistry. From restoring smiles with natural-looking crowns, bridges, and veneers to helping patients regain confidence with custom prosthetic solutions. Brin is passionate about combining precision, aesthetics, and long-term function.
Brin brings a calm, compassionate approach to dentistry, helping even the most anxious patients feel at ease. He takes pride in delivering high-quality care tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
COLIN POCOCK - ASSOCIATE DENTIST
Colin has relocated from a very happy 24 years in Birmingham to the beautiful North Devon Coast! Which has been a bit of a homecoming; as he was born in Barnstaple and spent his early years in Bradworthy. And then in Launceston (Lanson).
Colin studied Dentistry at Sheffield University and graduated in 1998.
For the last 18 years Colin was one of the Principal Dentists at a Boutique Dental Practice in Birmingham’s Convention Quarter called The Dentist at Liberty Place.
But most of all helping a whole new group of people get the smile they have always wanted. Colin’s previous patients (most of whom had been with him for 24 years) tell him that they love his approach to dentistry, a gentle and caring approach to treatment and a well explained treatment plan. Colin is here to help you and your family make the right choice and with you every step of the way. Colin especially loves minimally invasive procedures to help you keep your teeth for longer. And Aligning, Whitening and Bonding; helping to make them look their best!

Invisalign® uses a series of custom-made, clear aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. These aligners gradually shift your teeth into their correct positions. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before switching to the next set in the series until your treatment is complete.

The length of Invisalign® treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case. On average, treatment can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months. During your consultation, our dentist will provide a more accurate timeline based on your specific needs.

Invisalign® is generally less painful than traditional braces. You may experience some discomfort or pressure when you start wearing a new set of aligners, but this typically subsides after a few days as your teeth adjust.

You should remove your Invisalign® aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water. This prevents food and drink from getting trapped between your teeth and the aligners, which can cause staining and tooth decay. Remember to brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in.

Regular check-ups are essential to monitor your progress and ensure your treatment is on track. Typically, you’ll need to visit our practice every 6 to 8 weeks. During these visits, our dentist will provide you with your next sets of aligners and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
